Using UF Exchange

How to Connect to Your E-mail

Campus Connections
In order to use all features of the UF Exchange service, including calendars, tasks and messages, an employee will normally use the full Microsoft Outlook 2007 (preferred) or Outlook 2003 (Service Pack 2 or later) client software installed in their on campus workstation. Your local workstation support staff will likely configure this software.
The configuration instructions for on campus workstations using Microsoft Outlook 2007 and Microsoft Outlook 2003 are located on the technical staff resource page, as well as configuration instructions for other e-mail software likely to be used to access a UF Exchange mailbox.

Remote Access

If you need access to your mailbox when traveling or off campus, use one of the methods below.
The preferred method is to use the web interface, http://www.mail.ufl.edu, Outlook Web Access (OWA), to read and manage your e-mail. From the Internet Explorer 7 (IE) browser, the premium version of Outlook Web Access allows use of calendars, spell checking and other typical Outlook features that are not available when using FireFox, Mac Safari or an older version of IE. For more information about Outlook Web Access, see http://www.mail.ufl.edu/owa.html
Another method is to use the same configurations as for campus connections, above, and use the campus Virtual Private Network (VPN) software in conjunction with your normal Internet connection. This provides a secure connection with a campus IP (network) number that makes your connection appear as a campus connection.

A third method is to configure Outlook Anywhere. You might want to use this alternative if you are frequently traveling without access to the campus VPN service. Outlook Anywhere has the advantage over the OWA web page of viewing all messages in a scrolling, rather than page-by-page layout, allowing setup of rules, and use of some other features, but it does require a specific configuration setup that is different from the way Outlook is configured on campus. Ask your local IT support staff for their recommendation about use of Outlook Anywhere
