WHO WILL THIS IMPACT?

Faculty and staff (student email is already in Office 365). By the end of this transition, all campus mailboxes will be hosted in Office 365.

WHAT IS HAPPENING AND WHEN?

UF Information Technology (UFIT) is partnering with IT staff across campus to move faculty and staff email from on-campus servers to the Cloud. Your entire UF Exchange mailbox (which includes your email folders, calendar, contacts, tasks, and notes) will be migrated to the new O365 platform.

The transition is being planned with the input of campus IT staff in UF’s colleges, administrative units, and departments. Email accounts will be migrated in groups based on organizational units throughout the Spring 2020 term. UFIT is strategically scheduling migration dates approved with campus IT to minimize risk and disruption. In coordination with local IT support staff, communications will be sent ahead of a migration date to inform impacted faculty and staff of the schedule and any actions needed.

MIGRATION BENEFITS FOR UF FACULTY AND STAFF:

  • More Storage! UF faculty and staff will now have 100GB of mailbox storage.
  • Improved Outlook Web Access: Better browsing capability and archiving of emails and documents.
  • Better integration with other Office 365 services offered at UF, like OneDrive and SharePoint.
  • Enhanced spam detection and improved digital security to protect your information.
  • Additional “Out of Office” options and settings as well as updated Calendar features.

WHY IS UF CHANGING THE EMAIL SERVICE?

Migrating all UF mailboxes to the Cloud aligns with the University of Florida’s The Decade Ahead master plan goal: “Develop infrastructure and an efficient administration and support structure that enables preeminence.”

Having all UF email in one place allows for more efficient management of physical and staff resources, provides up-to-date infrastructure, and enables new features for users.

You will be receiving additional communications about the process, timelines, and what to expect as your email migration is scheduled. This web page will also be updated with dates and relevant docs.
