Sending Bulk Email
As of Sept. 3, 2026, UF’s GatorLink account mailboxes are limited to sending to 500 recipients per hour or 1,000 recipients per day. This security feature, known as Outbound Spam Action, was implemented to help protect UF's email reputation and reduce the impact of malicious outbound email in the event of a compromised GatorLink account.
Local IT support units can support their staff and faculty by moving the sending of mass email to a service account mailbox, utilizing a third-party bulk email service of which several are already configured with the necessary email domain authentication, or creating a listserv.
Mail merge operations should leverage a service account mailbox since using a shared mailbox will use the authenticated GatorLink account as the sender, potentially causing the GatorLink account mailbox to go over the limit and be restricted from sending. Once local IT has the service account mailbox ready, please submit a ticket with the name of the mailbox to be put into the exclusion policy.
GatorLink accounts found to be compromised will be disabled until the user regains control over their account through direct contact with the UFIT Help Desk.
Users identified by Outbound Spam Action will receive an email with the following notification:
“Your message couldn't be delivered because you weren't recognized as a valid sender. The most common reason for this is that your email address is suspected of sending spam and it's no longer allowed to send email. Contact your email admin for assistance. Remote Server returned 550 5.1.8 Access denied, bad outbound sender.”
